The Hobart and William Smith athletic departments raised awareness for breast cancer and donated just over $1,000 to Embrace Your Sisters through a “Blue Jean Friday” on Oct. 8. Embrace Your Sisters fills a unique niche in breast cancer services by providing short-term emergency financial assistance to residents of Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Seneca, Steuben, Wayne, and Yates counties.
During National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, members of the athletic departments could wear blue jeans to work in exchange for a donation to Embrace Your Sisters. Together the departments raised $510. Tom Poole '61, an HWS trustee and member of the Hobart Hall of Fame, generously contributed a matching gift.
The contribution will help Embrace Your Sisters continue its mission, assisting those diagnosed with breast cancer, easing their financial difficulties and helping them focus on their health and families.
As a part of William Smith's ongoing commitment to the fight against breast cancer, the Heron basketball team will join the Women's Basketball Coaches Association for a WBCA Pink Zone game on Feb. 19. William Smith will host Vassar that afternoon for a Liberty League contest in Bristol Gym at 2 p.m. The WBCA Pink Zone is a global, unified effort to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.
