Kennedy, Wolf honored at William Smith banquet

William Smith senior Casey Kennedy and first-year Haley Wolf were honored at the annual William Smith Athletics Awards Banquet on April 24. Kennedy received the Mary Hosking Tennis Award as the team's most valuable player, and Wolf was presented with the Elizabeth Laird Redway Heia '84 Tennis Coach's Award.

Kennedy led the Herons playing every match at the top singles spot this season. She posted a 14-10 overall record and an 11-7 mark in dual matches at No. 1 singles. She also added a 4-4 mark in doubles play, going 3-2 with classmate Katie Serock at No. 2 and earning a tournament doubles victory with first-year Katie Drinkwater. Kennedy was tabbed Liberty League Performer of the Week after posting a perfect 4-0 mark at No. 1 singles and earning two doubles wins during William Smith's spring break trip to Orlando, Fla.

In her Heron tennis career, Kennedy registered 58 singles victories and 24 doubles wins. She has helped the Herons to a 55-20 record in her four years on the team.

Wolf shared second on the William Smith tennis team recording 17 wins in her rookie season. She logged a 17-3 overall singles record and a 13-1 mark in dual matches. Wolf was 9-1 at No. 6, picked up two victories at No. 5 and earned one win at both No. 2 and No. 3. She posted a 1-1 doubles record in tournament play. Wolf finished the season riding an eight-match win streak in singles. She earned the Liberty League Rookie of the Week award three times during the season.

The Herons posted a 15-4 record in 2011-12, recording the second-most wins in a season in William Smith history. It was the Herons' 17th consecutive winning season. William Smith finished the year ranked No. 19 in the Northeast Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
