The William Smith cross country team will host the annual Cross Country Only Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Seneca Lake State Park Course. The women's 5-kilometer race is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., with the men's 8-kilometer race following at noon.
The championship field includes 17 schools. In addition to the Herons and the Statesmen, SUNY Canton, Cazenovia, Clarkson, St. Elizabeth, D'Youville, Hartwick, Hilbert, Keuka, Medaille, Morrisville State, Penn State-Altoona, Pitt-Bradford, Potsdam, SUNY-ESF, SUNYIT and Wells will all travel to Geneva to compete.
The Herons have captured the team title for three years in a row. In 2011 and 2012, William Smith's
Emily D'Addario '13 took home the individual title. Her times in each race were the best at the event ever since the CCOC Championship began in 2005. This year, junior
Avery Share has led the Herons across the finish line in every race.
Clarkson has won the men's team title in four out of the past five years. In 2012, John Stuligross of Hartwick took home the individual title. Hobart will look to improve on last year's ninth place finish. First-year
Cal Randle has been the top Statesmen finisher in four out of Hobart's six races this year.
The Cross Country Only Conference is comprised of schools who sponsor cross country but not track and field teams.
