Wolf, O'Connor recognized at William Smith banquet

William Smith sophomore Haley Wolf and junior Kate O'Connor were honored at the annual Heron Athletics banquet on April 23. Wolf was presented with the Mary Hosking Tennis Award as the team's MVP, and O'Connor earned the Elizabeth Laird Redway Heia '84 Tennis Coach's Award.

Wolf ranked second on the team with 17 singles wins this season. She notched a 17-7 overall singles mark. Wolf went 11-4 at No. 4, added two wins at No. 2 and earned one victory at No. 3. She finished out the year on a five-match win streak, and posted a 7-3 record in her last 10 matches.  Wolf went 2-2 in doubles play with senior Hallsey Leighton, competing in the Mary Hosking Invitational and the ITA Northeast Regional Championships. Wolf was tabbed the Liberty League Performer of the Week once this year. She earned the Elizabeth Laird Redway Heia '84 Tennis Coach's Award last year. Wolf has registered a 34-10 career singles record and a 3-3 career doubles mark as a Heron.

O'Connor battled an injury throughout the season, which put her in and out of the starting lineup. Despite the hardship, she never complained and was a steady leader for her team. O'Connor posted a 9-5 mark in doubles and a 3-1 singles record. She paired with junior Casey Nicoletti to notch a 4-1 mark at No. 3 doubles and added a victory at  the No. 2 spot. O'Connor picked up a singles win at both the No. 5 and No. 6 spots this year. She has logged 15 career singles win and 12 career doubles victories.

The Herons finished the year with a 12-7 overall record. William Smith defeated Rensselaer 5-2 in its Liberty League tournament quarterfinal match, but fell to then No. 19 Skidmore in the semifinals.
