More, Lyon earn William Smith tennis team awards

William Smith College sophomores Hannah More and Ashley Lyon were honored at the annual Heron Athletics banquet on April 21. More earned the Mary Hosking Tennis Award as the team's MVP and Lyon garnered the Elizabeth Laird Redway Heia '84 Tennis Coach's Award.

More, who earned the team's MVP award for the second year in a row, played all 15 of her singles matches and all 18 of her doubles matches this year at the No. 1 spots. She registered an 8-11 overall singles record including tournament play and went 6-9 in dual matches. More paired with senior Haley Wolf for a 10-7 record in doubles, earning the Liberty League Doubles Team of the Week Award twice. More garnered a spot on the conference's all-academic team this year.

Lyon played in seven matches at No. 2 singles and doubles this year. She logged two singles victories and added three doubles wins with first-year Michaelann Denton. Lyon's first-year season was cut short due to an injury. This year, she had to sit out the fall, but worked incredibly hard to get back onto the court and into the lineup early in the spring. Her injury resurfaced once again cutting her season short, but Lyon switched gears to become another set of eyes for the coaches. She became an even bigger fan of her teammates, supporting and encouraging them every day at practice.

The Herons finished the year with a 9-9 overall record.
