A sociology major, Adam Schapiro is by far the greatest tennis player to grace the Hobart courts, boasting a four-year career record of 75-4 (.949) in singles play and a 61-11 (.847) mark in doubles action. He began his senior season as the top-ranked player in the Division III East Region and qualified for the NCAA Tournament, advancing to the quarterfinal round. Schapiro posted a 20-1 record in singles matches losing to 1995 National Champion, Damian Polla from Washington (Md.) in three sets. He added a 13-4 mark in doubles play that year also. As a junior, he was 22-1 in singles play, advancing to the NCAA Quarterfinals, while posting a 22-2 mark in doubles, advancing to the second round before losing to the defending national champs. As a first-year, Schapiro registered a perfect 20-0 record in singles to go with a stellar 16-3 mark in doubles. No Hobart tennis player before, or since, has earned All-American accolades.
He continued his tennis career in Colorado where in 2000 he was awarded the Jim Landin Award as the outstanding male tennis player in Colorado. In 2001 he finished ranked first in the adult bracket of the Colorado Tennis Association for singles and second in the doubles championships.
