The first lacrosse All-American in William Smith history, Jachney Erskine graduated as the program’s career goals leader. She helped the Herons establish program records for wins in a season in each of her four seasons.
During her first year on campus, Jachney Erskine played on the soccer team in the fall and then paced the lacrosse team with 30 goals and added an assist for 31 points in the spring. The lacrosse team finished the season with eight wins in 13 games.
In 1985, Jachney Erskine focused exclusively on lacrosse and again led the Herons’ scoring efforts, registering 32 goals and seven assists for 39 points. She was named second team All-State after William Smith capped a 9-6 season with the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Tournament Championship.
As a junior, Jachney Erskine produced 40 goals and 12 assists for 52 points, helping the team reach double digits in the win column with a 10-3 record and finishing third in the New York State Tournament. She was just the second Heron to record 50-plus points in a season, surpassing Lauren Head’s record 51-point campaign in 1983. Jachney Erskine’s record-setting performance drew state, regional, and national praise. She garnered first team All-State, first team All-Region, and became the first Heron lacrosse player to be tabbed an All-American, earning a spot on the IWLCA second team.

Jachney Erskine didn’t play in 1987, but returned to the field in 1988 and logged career-highs in goals, assists, and points and helped the Herons to their first NCAA Division III Championship game appearance. Unseeded in the tournament, William Smith upset No. 4 Drew 14-6 and top-ranked Ursinus 13-11 to advance to the title game. The Herons featured a talented and deep squad that season. Her 43 goals and 19 assists were both second on the team, while her 62 points were third.
Jachney Erskine was recognized with a spot on the NCAA All-Tournament Team, IWLCA All-America first team, USWLA All-America first team, and her third All-State team appearance. She finished her career with a then-record 145 goals and 39 assists for 184 points. Jachney Erskine was also second on both the goals and points lists, trailing classmate Michele Albert.
Jachney Erskine graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English. She is self-employed as a personal organizer.
