A two-sport student-athlete, Janczyk excelled as a four-year starter on the Hobart football team and as a three-year letterman on the lacrosse team. He was selected captain on both teams his senior year.
On the football field, Janczyk spent four years as a starting defensive lineman. As a first-year, he was honored with the Harter Family Award for Football. After his junior season, he earned the Tryon Football Award as Hobart’s most outstanding lineman. In his four years, Janczyk helped the Statesmen to a 27-8-1 record, for a .771 winning percentage.
A standout defenseman in lacrosse, Janczyk guided the Statesmen to the NCAA National Championship game in 1974 and 1975. As a senior captain, he led Hobart to victory in the NCAA Division II National Championship game. He earned the 1976 Lt. John Vandeverg Memorial Award, as Hobart’s most improved player.
At the end of his Hobart career, Janczyk was selected the 1976 Francis L. “Babe” Kraus Award winner as the senior athlete of the year.
After graduating with a degree in psychology, Janczyk served as an assistant coach at Hobart under Coach Dave Urick (HOF 1990) in both football and lacrosse. His coaching career progressed with stops at Salisbury—where he earned the Division III Coach of the Year award in 1984—and Colgate before settling in at Gettysburg.
In 23 seasons with the Bullets, Janczyk has posted a 300-77 record. His overall career record of 330-98 ranks him second in career victories among active Division III men’s lacrosse coaches. Janczyk has led the Bullets to 17 conference titles, 20 NCAA playoff appearances, and three national championship games. He was selected the Division III Coach of the Year for the second time in 2001 and named the 2008 USILA Howdy Myers Man of the Year.
