James Burness '71 was a four-year letterwinner in both tennis and squash. As a freshman on the tennis team he lead the squad to an undefeated season. He captained the tennis team in both 1970 and 1971 while doing the same for the squash team in 1971. Burness was awarded the William Walley Award for tennis in 1970 and 1971. He also won the Frank Smith Award for squash in 1971. He set the record for most wins in a season during his junior year and then broke his own record during his senior season. Burness also led the squash team to its first national ranking of 16th during the 1971 season.
