Kate Hendrickson ’89 was a member of the 1992 U.S. Olympic kayaking team and an alternate in the 1996 Games, as well as a World Championship finalist and silver medalist at the 1995 Pan American Games. She holds William Smith records in the 500-yard freestyle, 1,000 free, 1,650 free, 200 butterfly, and 800 free relay. As a first-year, she earned honorable mention All-American status swimming a leg of the 12th place 800 free relay team at the 1986 National Championships. A year later, she All-American status with a seventh place finish in the 1,650 free, while placing 18th in the 500 free, and 23rd in the 200 free. Hendrickson upped her All-American total again in 1988 with honorable mention finishes in the 1,650 free (12th), 500 free (13th), and 200 free (16th). Her efforts earned her the 1988 Hazel Nettleship Award. After winning the State Championship in the 1,650 free and 500 free and the 200 fly as a senior, Hendrickson posted three more honorable mention All-American finishes at the 1989 National Championships in the 500 free (16th) and the 400 and 800 free relays (12th and 11th, respectively).
