
One of the very best field hockey and lacrosse players in William Smith history, Kathleen Odomirok appeared in four NCAA tournaments, including the championship game of both sports during the 1987-88 academic year. She was a record-setting goalie in the fall and a tenacious defensive midfielder in the spring. Odomirok served as team captain in both sports.
In field hockey, Odomirok holds the program’s career save percentage record (.916), is third in total saves (448) and is fifth in goals against average (0.86). She is the only goalie in program history to produce 200 saves in a season, doing it twice.
In 1987, Odomirok guided the Herons to a 19-4 overall record and its first appearance in the NCAA tournament. She made 201 saves, finishing the year with a .901 save percentage and a 0.93 GAA. Odomirok-Hoffman and the Herons had eight shutouts on the year as they advanced to the national championship game.
As a senior, Odomirok raised her season save record to 232, helping William Smith post a 15-5 record. The Herons reached the NCAA tournament for the second straight year, advancing to the quarterfinals. Her .928 save percentage in 1988 remains the Heron gold standard. Odomirok made a career-high 28 saves in a 2-1 victory over Bloomsburg during her senior year. She was named to the NYSWCAA All-Tournament team.
On the lacrosse field, Odomirok was a talented midfielder for William Smith. In each of her final three seasons, she helped the Herons advance to the NCAA tournament. She also helped William Smith win its first two New York State titles (1988, 1989).
As a first-year, Odomirok played in 13 games, recording seven points on six goals and an assist. The Herons finished the year with a 10-3 record. The next year, she doubled her total collecting 14 points on 11 goals and three assists. William Smith was 10-4 overall and made its first trip to the NCAA tournament, advancing to the national semifinals.
During the 1988 season, Odomirok recorded 17 points on nine goals and eight assists. The Herons went 15-3 overall and advanced to the national championship game. William Smith won 12 straight games, including the program’s first New York State title.
As a senior, Odomirok was named a first team All-American after guiding the Herons back to a second straight state title. William Smith went 13-3 and advanced to the national semifinals.Odomirok was named the NYSWCAA lacrosse tournament’s most valuable player. She finished the year with a career-high 28 points.
Odomirok earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and French in 1989.
