Kathy Bloom excelled in the swimming pool for the Herons, earning All-American honors as a senior with a sixth place finish in the 100-yard butterfly competition. During her impressive career at William Smith, she set the 50 freestyle, 50 and 100 butterfly school records and was a member of the record-setting 400 free relay team, which finished sixth at the National Championships. She also posted victories in the 50 free and the 50 and 100 fly at the New York State meet as a senior.

Bloom’s success in the water in 1985 earned her the Hazel Nettleship Hardy Award given to the sophomore who has contributed to the growth of Heron athletics and is an excellent representation of William Smith Athletes. She also won the Most Valuable Award for Swimming in both 1985 and 1986. Closing out her career in good fashion, the sprinter was presented the Marion Harrison Greene Award as the College’s most outstanding senior athlete in 1986.
