A two-time All-American goalie, Keith Longo ’09 was a four-year letter-winner in hockey. One of the best goalies in program history, he graduated with the Hobart carer record for wins (51), saves (2,636), shutouts (8), save percentage (.930) and goals against average (2.30) At the time of his graduation, his .930 save percentage was the NCAA Division III record.
Longo was given the reins as starting goalie as a first-year, appearing in 19 games and starting 17. He went 12-7-0 with a 2.19 GAA, a .928 save percentage and three shutouts. Longo was named to the ECAC West All-Rookie team and was a USCHO East All-Rookie selection. He also won the Abe Solomon Memorial Award as Hobart’s Rookie of the Year. Behind Longo’s stellar play, Hobart had its first 20-win season and made its first trip to the national semifinals. Longo made a season-high 38 saves twice in the NCAA tournament against Norwich and St. Norbert. During the season, he had a 180:24 shutout streak, which at the time was sixth longest in DIII history.
As a sophomore Longo played in 18 games. He finished the year with a 7-6-5 record, a 2.59 GAA and a .917 save percentage. He was named the ECAC West Goalie of the Week three times as Hobart went 13-9-5.
During his junior campaign, Longo guided the Statesmen back to the NCAA tournament. He posted a 14-7-2 overall record with a 2.42 GAA and a .931 save percentage. At the time, Longo’s 14 wins were a Hobart single-season record. He garnered American Hockey Coaches Association East All-American first team recognition. An All-ECAC West first team selection, Longo helped the Statesmen post an 18-8-2 record. He had a career-high 48 saves in a game against Manhattanville.
As a senior, Longo again guided Hobart to the national semifinals, posting an 18-7-2 record in goal. He was named the ECAC West Goalie of the Week eight times during his senior season. During the NCAA tournament, Longo made 94 saves, earning a spot on the NCAA all-tournament team. He set the Statesmen season records for wins, saves (876), GAA (2.08) and save percentage (.939). He was an AHCA East All-American second team selection and was invited to participate in the NCAA Frozen Four Skills Challenge in Washington, D.C., at the site of the Division I national championship. Longo capped his career with the 2009 Francis L. “Babe” Kraus ’24 Memorial Award as the most outstanding senior athlete.
After graduation, Longo signed a professional contract with the Amarillo Gorillas of the Central Hockey League.
