Megan SheaOne of the very best attackers in the history of William Smith lacrosse, Megan Shea Breslin ’03 is firmly entrenched in the Heron records book and is one of the most decorated players in program history. She was a two-time captain and guided the Herons to a four-year record of 56-9, winning a conference championship and making three appearances in the NCAA tournament.

With at least one point in all 65 games she played at William Smith, Shea Breslin compiled 282 career points on 193 goals and 89 assists. She graduated second in career assists and points, third in draw controls, fourth in goals, fifth in caused turnovers and eighth in ground balls. Shea Breslin was a three-time All-American, earning second team honors as a sophomore, third team recognition as a junior and first team accolades as a senior. She was also a four-time all-region selection, a four-time All-State pick, a three-time All-UCAA honoree and a two-time UCAA Player of the Year.

The team’s leader in points in each of her four seasons, Shea Breslin produced back-to-back seasons with 77 points in 2001 and 2002. At the time, those totals were tied for ninth on William Smith’s single season list. She recorded a career-high 53 goals as a junior which was 12th on the single season list. Shea Breslin’s career-high 28 assists as a sophomore placed her seventh on the season list.

As a first-year, Shea Breslin produced 60 points and led the Herons to a NCAA tournament berth. She registered a season-high seven points three times, including three goals and a season’s best four assists in victories over both Rensselaer and Denison. She was the recipient of the 2000 Stephanie Christie Award which is presented to William Smith Athletics’ rookie of the year.

In 2001, Shea Breslin erupted for a pair of season-high eight-point games, leading the Herons over Haverford and Rochester. With a pair of goals in the win at Ithaca, she surpassed the 100-point plateau.

By the end of April of her junior year, Shea Breslin joined the 200-point club, the sixth Heron to reach that milestone. She burned No. 17 Rochester for a season-high eight points and notched seven points in the team’s first round NCAA tournament win over No. 12 Rowan.

In 2003, Shea Breslin capped her career by helping the Herons capture the inaugural Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament Championship with five points across two games. She then tallied eight times in three NCAA tournament games as William Smith reached the national semifinals. She was presented the Patricia Price Genovese Award as team MVP and was selected to play in the North-South Senior All-Star Game.

Shea Breslin graduated from William Smith with a bachelor’s degree in economics. She is a senior wealth manager at Sand Hill Global Advisors.
