A four-year letter-winner in basketball, Michael J. Masino ’88 is the single season (652) and all-time (1,663) leader in scoring for Hobart. He also holds records for most free throws made in a season (232) and most free throws made in a career (574). Masino was named both All-Greater Rochester and first-team All-ICAC in 1987 and 1988. He was an NABC Regional All-American and a first-team All-ECAC in 1988.

As a junior, Masino scored a school record 652 points, a performance that helped earn him the Statesmen captaincy for his senior season. His final season in a Hobart uniform saw him become the only player to eclipse 600 points in a season twice, registering 617 points. In fact, only one other player has managed to score 600 points in a season.

Masino was a recipient of the Henry C. Hawley Scholarship in 1988, along with the Francis L. “Babe” Kraus Memorial Award, awarded to Hobart’s Athlete of the Year. He was voted MVP in basketball in both 1987 and 1988.
