A member of Hobart’s first undefeated football team, Turoski was one of the top running backs in college football in 1954. With 15 touchdowns, he was the eastern college scoring champion and tied for seventh in the country, a significant achievement when you consider he shared the backfield with Hall of Famers
Walter Harrison ’57 (Class of 2002) and
Bill Morton ’55 (Class of 2002). Turoski averaged 9.2 yards per carry as a senior, after setting the school record at 9.9 yards per carry as a junior. While the forward pass was not a major part of the Hobart attack, Turoski proved to be a potent threat as a receiver as well, taking five of his eight receptions for touchdowns.
Turoski set a Hobart record for rushing yards in a season when he gained 722 in 1954, leading the Statesmen with 936 yards of total offense and 90 points. At the time, only Hall of Famer
Merle Gulick ’30 (Class of 1986) had scored more points in a season.
Turoski also earned two varsity letters in baseball.
A member of Hobart’s Orange Key and Chimera honor societies and Phi Beta Kappa, Turoski graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in history. The distinguished graduate of the Hobart ROTC program retired from the U.S. Air Force as a lieutenant colonel. A combat navigator, Turoski flew 161 missions in Vietnam and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and six air combat medals.
