GENEVA, N.Y.--Not even a fire alarm could slow down the top-ranked Trinity (Conn.) squash team this afternoon. The Bantams spoiled No. 25 Hobart's Senior Day with a 9-0 victory in the Smith Squash Center.
Trinity improved its record to 14-0 this season, extending its overall winning streak to 197 matches. The Statesmen slip to 6-9 overall.
The Bantams won all nine matches 3-0.
Luke Esselen came closest to stealing a game for Hobart, falling to George DiSesa at No. 4 9-5, 10-8, 10-8.
Trinity led 8-0 with
Kevin Kent battling John Lingos-Webb at No. 7 in the final match of the day, when the Sport & Recreation Center's fire alarm was activated. Following a 20-minute delay that included a full response from the Geneva Fire Department for what proved to be a false alarm, Kent and Lingos-Webb resumed their match. The visitor had secured the first two games 9-2 and 9-0 prior to the alarm, but Kent was able to push his opponent to the brink in the third game, eventually falling 10-8 in the interupted game.
The Statesmen will wrap up the regular season at 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 8, when they visit No. 4 Cornell.
