William Smith senior defender
Lily Kuhn was named the Liberty League Women's Lacrosse Defensive Performer of the Week by the league office today. Junior midfielder
Grace Rund earned a spot on the weekly honor roll for the second straight week.

In addition, the Herons moved up one spot to No. 9 in the IWLCA poll and up two spots to No. 6 in the USA Lacrosse Magazine Poll. Kuhn and Rund led the Herons to a 2-0 week in non-conference action. William Smith defeated Hamilton 10-9 on Wednesday on Boswell Field and then knocked off Cortland 10-9 on Saturday on the road.
Â
Kuhn anchored William Smith's defense, recording five caused turnovers and six gound balls against the Continentals and the Red Dragons. On Wednesday, she had two caused turnovers and two ground balls against Hamilton. Kuhn followed that up with a three-caused turnover and four-ground ball performance against Cortland. She also played a key role in the defensive unit that limited Cortland to a season-low 13 shots. Through three games, Kuhn has six caused turnovers and nine ground balls. She also leads the Herons clearing unit, which is seventh in the nation in clearing percentage (.932).
Â
Rund had four goals, 10 draw controls and a ground ball last week. On Wednesday against Hamilton, she scored twice and had three ground balls. In the Cortland win, Rund played an instrumental role, scoring twice and winning seven draws. Her second goal of the game was the game-winning tally and Rund also won two key draws to set up the game-tying goal and her game-winning goal. Rund is tied for the team lead with seven goals and is 15th in the nation in draw controls per game (7.67).
