A cross country runner, Kincaid is still going the distance, although now it's on behalf of students in the Geneva School District. She was recently accepted as an official applicant for the Students in Service Awards for her work with the Building Bridges after school program, which seeks to bring together members of the HWS campus and Geneva youth.
Washington Campus Compact, a union of college and university professors dedicated to furthering civic engagement in colleges across the country, has created the Students in Service Awards (SISA) to reward students who have shown exemplary volunteerism and have positively impacted their community through service.
Students who applied for the scholarship are featured on the SISA website, where
supporters can vote for their favorite applicant. Votes will play a part in the selection process, as a combination of fan votes and the consideration of a board of community service leaders will determine the finalists.
The SISA will provide scholarships and grants totaling $25, 000, recognizing the work of three students. Each student who receives an award will receive a $5,000 scholarship, a $2,500 grant for the service-learning center at that student's university that is to be used to support the center's civic engagement programs, and another $2,500 grant for the non-profit organization that sponsored the winning service project.
