National Champions



The ultimate goal of every student-athlete is to win a national championship. Hobart and William Smith Colleges are regularly in the preseason discussions when it comes to national title contenders. In fact, the Statesmen and Herons have combined to win 26 team national championships. Most recently, the Hobart Hockey team won back-to-back-to-back national championships in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

Additionally, William Smith swimmer Vibeke Hopkinson '83 won individual NCAA titles in the 50-yard and 100-yard backstroke as a senior. Two Hobart crews have earned gold medals at the IRA Regatta, the pair of Chris Desino '94 and Rob Desino '94 (in 1993 and 1994) and the novice four of Dan Gilbert '06, Gardner Loring '06, Timothy Faxon '06, Gavin Johnstone-Butcher '06, and John Michael Chadonic '06 (in 2003).
