If there was room to list nine Heron Athletes of the Week in this space, Goral would be joined by her crewmates in the varsity eight. William Smith won a silver medal in the women's collegiate eight of the Head of the Charles. In a 26-crew field jam-packed with the top programs in the nation, the Herons covered the 5-kilometer course in 18:00.405. Only Trinity (Conn.) turned in a faster time at 17:42.648. Defending national champion Williams was third in 18:01.384. Kim Goral, Libby Hughes, Katie Paige, Sarah Gordon, Emily Andersen, Laura Cappio, Caroline DeWeirdt, Alyssa Trebilcock, and Jess Steketee powered the Herons to their first ever medal at the Charles.
“The voice and navigator of the boat… Kim represents the relentless pursuit of excellence that her boat shows every day in every aspect of their lives," Head Coach Sandra Chu says. "On the water and off, they hunt for speed and for ways to improve not only their own performance but that of the whole team. This boat of leaders is honing a culture for William Smith rowing that presses us in all the right directions.”
