Mahoney, a junior on the swimming and diving team, is this week's Heron Athlete of the Week for her efforts out of the water. She was the brains behind this past weekend's Connecting Smiles festival. About 80 HWS student-athletes and around 100 children and adults with developmental disabilities spent two and a half hours on Saturday playing games, learning about sports, and dancing in the Bristol Field House.

The event was profiled in the Finger Lakes Times on Dec. 3 and included the following:

“It has been a lot of hard work. Everything has come together so quickly,” said Mahoney.

Her enthusiasm is backed by an infectious energy, a wide smile and sparkling eyes.

“The people that I work with have a huge impact on me. They set the tone and mood and just keep me going,” she said.
