Newman led William Smith with a perfect 3-0 record at the No. 1 spot, as the Herons captured the Epps Cup at the 2013 CSA Team National Championship over the weekend. Newman defeated Vassar's Libby Pei 12-10, 11-6, 11-6 on Friday, and then rallied for a 7-11, 11-6, 11-5, 2-11, 11-4 victory over St. Lawrence's Brigitte Tousignant in the second round match on Saturday. In the championship match against Virginia on Sunday, Newman helped William Smith to a 6-3 win with an 11-7, 11-8, 11-5 triumph over Kelly Whelan. Newman logged a team-high 13 wins this season, posting a 13-5 record at the No.1 spot. The Herons finished the season with an 11-7 overall record. It's the fourth CSA Cup William Smith has earned, having captured the 2006 and 2007 Walker Cup and the 2009 Epps Cup.
