August Wherry helped the Hobart varsity eight successfully defend its New York State Championship over the weekend. Sam Zuckerman, Joe Biesemeyer, Robert McNamara, Wherry, Brett Lawhon, Davis Muller, Patrick Ware, Milos Milosavljevic, and W. Hunter Holtz won their opening heat on Saturday in 6:31.37, 3.59 seconds faster than second place Army. In Sunday's grand final, the Statesmen posted a winning time of 6:18.69, 2.25 seconds ahead of silver medalist Ithaca and 7.33 seconds better than bronze medalist Army.
