Curren joined the athletics staff as an assistant coach for the Hobart rowing team ahead of the 2018-19 season. He currently served as the associate head coach of the Colleges' rowing teams.

Curren came to HWS after spending the past three years as the director of rowing and head coach at Genesee Waterways Center. During that time period, he also served as an assistant crew coach at Mercy High School and the director of rowing and girls head coach at Pittsford crew. Prior to coming to New York, Curren served in various roles at Community Rowing Inc., in Boston, from 1991-2013. He was the head men's rowing coach at Brandeis University in 1995 and an assistant coach at Buckingham Browne & Nichols School.
 
In 2018-19, Curren led Hobart to its 14th consecutive Liberty League Championship.  At the NIRC Championships, Hobart won three medals for the seventh straight season. At the IRA Championships, the varsity eight finished 23rd overall, the 2V finished 17th, and the 3V finished 18th. 
 
No stranger to the Hobart rowing program, Curren has served as a coaching consultant since 2014. He was also a volunteer assistant coach for the William Smith rowing team from 2013-14.
 
Curren has been a coach for USRowing since 1997. Starting in 2016, he has served as the head coach for the U17 Women's National Team at the development camp. Prior to that he was a coach at the Junior B Sculling Development Camp, the Head Coach for the United States CanAmMex team and the junior women's sweep coach for the USA CanAmMex team.
 
While working for CRI, his charges won numerous medals and trophies. At the CanAmMex Championships his boats won 14 medals (6 gold, 6 silver, 2 bronze). At the Head of the Charles, Curren's teams finished first seven times, and claimed 11 medals. At the USRowing Club Nationals, his charges have won more than 100 medals. His team won the overall point championship in 2011 and the women's points championship four times at the USRowing Club Nationals. He has also overseen 18 gold medal winning boats at the Canadian Henley.
 
Curren, who is an USRowing Level 3 Certified Coach, has served on the USRowing Youth Advisory Committee since 2001. He has served as a guest speaker at several conferences and events throughout the northeast.
