Tom Keller joined the Hobart rowing coaching staff as an assistant coach prior to the start of the 2011-12 season.
Last season, Keller coached the third varsity eight to a spot in the Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championships, the third varsity's first time competeing at the championships. The 3V8 finished in 17th place at the IRA. The eight captured a second straight New York State Championship and second straight silver medal at the ECAC National Invitational Rowing Championships.Keller also coached the novice eights. The Hobart coaching staff was voted the 2013-14 Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year.
In 2012-13, Keller coached the third varsity eight and novice eight. The 3V8 had a banner season winning a New York State Championship and finishing second at the ECAC National Invitational Rowing Championships, the third varsity's best finish at the event. The novice eight was recognized by the Liberty League as Novice Crew of the Year following its victory at the Liberty League Championships. The Hobart coaching staff was voted the 2012-13 Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year.
In his first season at Hobart, Keller helped the Statesmen, the 2011-12 Liberty League Crew of the Year, win their seventh consecutive Liberty League Championship. Â Hobart's top crew produced podium finishes in the Head of the Genesee (bronze medal) and the New York State Championships (bronze medal). The Statesmen also retained the Seneca Cup for the third straight season.
During the summer of 2011, Keller served as an assistant coach for the U.S. Junior National Team. He worked with an elite group of 18 high school athletes, as they competed for a world championship in Eton, England. All four of the boats Keller coached finished in the top 12.
Previously, Keller worked as an assistant coach for the West Virginia University women's rowing team. In his time with the Mountaineers, he coached the novice eights and the first and second varsity fours. Prior to that, he worked as the Rochester Institute of Technology's men's rowing coordinator. Keller coached the Tigers' varsity eight during the 2010 fall season.
Keller was a four-year member of the Trinity College rowing team. On the water, he earned New England Championships in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Keller also earned a New England Championship as a part of Trinity's varsity four in 2007. In addition, he captured first place in the ECAC National Invitational Rowing Championship in 2006 and again in 2008, first as a member of an undefeated fresman eight and in 2008 as a member of the second varsity eight. Keller also competed in the renowned Henley Royal Regatta and the Head of the Charles. He garnered the Torch Award, given to team members who have helped foster and perpetuate rowing on campus.
Keller graduated from Trinity in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in religion and public policy and law.
