Skip Kielt joined the Hobart rowing coaching staff as an assistant coach prior to the start of the 2015-16 season.

Kielt comes to Hobart after spending the past three seasons as an assistant coach of men’s rowing at Rutgers University. His primary duties with the Scarlet Knights included athlete development and recruiting. Kielt spent this summer coaching pre-elite rowers through the Princeton National Rowing Association on Mercer Lake.

Previously, Kielt served as the head coach for the West Side Rowing Club senior men’s team. He led that team to seven finals, including back-to-back Henley Golds at both the 2012 and 2013 Royal Canadian Henley Regatta in the U23 men’s lightweight pair. Kielt also coached medal winning crews at the USRowing Club National Championships. His team won a silver in the lightweight men’s pair in 2012 and a bronze in the junior men’s four in 2010. As an assistant coach for West Side Rowing Club Juniors, he qualified two crews for the 2010 USRowing Youth National Championships where his varsity women’s four earned a fourth place finish.

Prior to joining the Rutgers coaching staff, Kielt spent one year as the head men’s rowing and assistant women’s rowing coach at Canisius College.

Kielt graduated from Rutgers in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in environmental planning and design. He was a three year member of the Rutgers varsity eight, where he competed in the finals at both the Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges Sprints and the Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championships. As an undergrad, he spent three consecutive summers rowing at the United States U-23 Lightweight National Team Selection Camp and represented the United States at the World Championships in Germany in 2008. In addition to his national team experience, Kielt was a U.S. National and Canadian Henley Champion.
