A four-year letter-winner in lacrosse, Raymond V. Gilliam ’87 was the USILA Division III Player of the Year in 1987. A first-team All-American in both 1986 and 1987, he was named the Division III Attackman of the Year in both of those years as well. In 1987 he won the Judge Kane Memorial Award as Hobart’s lacrosse MVP. He was also named the MVP in the North-South game that same year. Gilliam received the William H. Dobbin ’40 Memorial Award as Hobart’s top offensive lacrosse player in 1986. A standout the classroom as well as on the field, Gilliam was named a USILA Scholar-Athlete.

His name is scattered all over the Hobart records book. Gilliam ranks sixth in career points (206), seventh in career assists (82), and ninth in career goals. His junior and senior seasons rank among the best in Hobart history. In 1986 he scored 51 goals (9th) and 33 assists (15th) for 84 points (12th). A year later, he posted 48 goals (12th) and 27 assists (28th) for 75 points (18th).

An active member of the lacrosse community, he won the U.S. Club Lacrosse Association Player of the Year Award in 1989 while playing for the New York Athletic Club. At the time of his induction, he still played for the Olympic Club in San Francisco.
