An economics major, Gordon F. Satterley was a four-year letterwinner in lacrosse. As a high scoring attackman, he earned All-America honors as a sophomore, junior and senior. Satterley led Hobart in scoring in both the 1947 and 1948 seasons. He captained the 1949 Statesmen to an 8-3 record, the squad’s best mark during his days on campus. The North-South All-Star scored a career-high nine goals against Kenyon and added six tallies in his final collegiate game, a 24-12 triumph over Union.
The very definition of student-athlete, Satterley was a member of Hobart’s Orange Key, Chimera, and Druid societies, the sophomore, junior, and senior honor societies. In addition, he also was a member of the Honorary Economic Society.
Satterley is a military veteran having served during World War II as a radarman aboard the USS Weiss. Upon graduation in 1950, he went to work for the New York Telephone Company as a district manager. The latter part of Satterley’s career saw him work as a law firm executive director until he retired in 1990.
Very active in his home of Darien, Conn., Satterley has been elected to the town government, been a Red Cross driver, and coached high school lacrosse. An avid golfer, Satterley has recorded two holes-in-one over the past four years.
