Hobart and William Smith Colleges Athletics

George Barna '29 was an outstanding football and lacrosse player who continued his athletic career in the NFL with the Philadelphia Yellowjackets. While at Hobart, he was a first-team alternate All-American football player as a senior and an honorable mention All-American as a junior. Barna also was captain of the football team as a senior. Hobart football's lineman award for love of the game ("he came to play, he came to win") is named after him. He played lacrosse as a senior and earned second-team All-American honors. He also was responsible for introducing lacrosse to the Buffalo area.
