Francis L. "Babe" Kraus '24 was Hobart College's athletic director from 1932-1963. An outstanding coach, he is generally regarded as having the longest consecutive lacrosse coaching record in the nation (1925-66) and was a 1965 inductee of the Lacrosse Hall of Fame. In his playing days, Kraus was a standout in football, basketball, and lacrosse and served as captain of the football and basketball teams. After receiving New York All-State recognition in basketball and football and All-American honors in lacrosse, Kraus played professional football for Buffalo in 1924. The "Babe Kraus Award," given annually to the Division III Coach of the Year, honors his achievements. Hobart's "Babe Kraus Memorial Award" is presented annually to the College's Student-Athlete of the Year.
