Hobart and William Smith Colleges Athletics

Paul E. Vogt '27 was a two-sport star at Hobart, earning four letters in football and three in lacrosse. A starting center on the football team for four years and captain of the squad as a senior, he was one of the most dominant linemen in the area and was named to the Syracuse University "All-Opponent" teams as both a junior and a senior. Along with three teammates, he was presented with a diamond-studded football after his class became the first to defeat arch-rival Rochester for four consecutive seasons. An attackman who would later go on to coach the Hobart freshman lacrosse team for several years, Vogt earned honorable mention All-American honors in 1924. A campus leader, he was a member of both Chimera (junior honor society) and the Druids (senior honor society) and president of the Class of '27 as both a freshman and a junior. His involvement with the Colleges extended long past his graduation. Vogt served on the Board of Trustees of Hobart and William Smith Colleges from 1948-68, and was chairman of both the Building and Grounds Committee and the Admissions and Morale Committee. He was one of the prime movers in the planning and realization of the Robert A. Bristol Gymnasium completed in 1965.
