James W. Bampton '32 was a member of both the Chimera and Druid Honor Societies while earning varsity letters in football in 1930 and 1931. He was also a delegate to the Model League of Nations in his sophomore, junior and senior years. Bampton served as a special representative of the United States Board of Economic Welfare in Australia and New Zealand in 1943-44. In January of 1956 he was selected to Sports Illustrated's Silver Anniversary All-American Football Team. An active Alumni Association member, Bampton received the Hobart Alumni Citation in 1972. He has served as a Trustee and Honorary Trustee of Hobart and William Smith Colleges since 1957 and was the national chairman of The Campaign for the Colleges from 1984-88. A past president of the Hobart Alumni Association (1964-67) and Hobart Club of Philadelphia (1958-62), Bampton received an LL.D. Degree from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in 1968.
