Hobart and William Smith Colleges Athletics

A four-year letter-winner in lacrosse, David J. McNaney ’77 was a U.S. team selection for the World Games in Manchester, England in 1978. A two-time first-team All-American, he was the 1977 College Division Midfielder of the Year and overall Player of the Year. McNaney also played in the 1977 North-South All-Star game. He was Hobart’s Judge Kane Memorial Award (MVP) winner in 1977. He also served as the president of his fraternity, Kappa Sigma.

During his career, the Statesmen compiled a four-year record of 56-7 (.889), including 1977’s perfect 15-0. Hobart played in four consecutive NCAA Championship games, capturing titles in 1976 (18-9 over Adelphi) and 1977 (23-13 over Washington College).

A product of the Finger Lakes, McNaney starred for Mynderse Academy in his hometown of Seneca Falls in football, basketball, and lacrosse.
