GENEVA, N.Y. -- Junior Brianna Tindall (Poultney/Castleton, Vt.) scored three goals to lead the seventh-ranked William Smith College soccer team to a 5-0 victory over previously unbeaten Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
With their eight consecutive win, the Herons improve to 9-2 overall, 2-0 in the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association, while the Red Hawks fall to 7-1, 2-1. Rensselaer, ranked fifth in the NSCAA New York/Northeast Region Poll, entered today's match having allowed just two goals all season and none in the last 469 minutes, 57 seconds. The Red Hawks extended the streak to 498:35, before Tindall broke through for the opening score in the 29th minute, off of assists by senior Nicole Marks (Berkshire School/Nantucket, Mass.) and first-year Kristin Perrigo (Liverpool/Liverpool, N.Y.).
Eleven minutes later, Tindall notched her second tally off a feed from first-year Erika Turner (Wayzata/Plymouth, Minn.). William Smith led 2-0 at halftime.
Senior Tatiana Korba (Wooster/Wooster, Ohio) gave William Smith a three-goal advantage in the 60th minute with her team-leading 12th goal of the season. In the 77th minute, Tindall recorded the hat trick, heading in a corner kick off the foot of Perrigo. Senior Antoinette DeLucia (Shenedehowa/Mechanicsville, N.Y.) closed out the scoring just three minutes later off another Turner assist.
Sophomore Leah Cornwell (Wheatland-Chili/Scotsville, N.Y.) and senior Leslie Khachadourian (Guilderland/Albany, N.Y.) combined for four saves and the team's fifth shutout of the season. Senior Laura Gregor (Troy, N.Y.) and Amy Gennarini (Masuk/Monroe, Conn.) combined for 10 saves for Rensselaer.
The Herons will return to action on Sat., Oct. 2, at 2 p.m., hosting conference rival Skidmore College.
