Statesmen lose to #2 St. Lawrence in double OT

GENEVA, N.Y. -- Junior Ryan Carruth (Alexander Dawson/Boulder, Colo.) tallied two goals, including the game-winner in the 108th minute, and the St. Lawrence University men's soccer team remained undefeated with a 4-3 victory over Hobart College in double overtime. St. Lawrence, ranked No. 2 in the nation, improved to 12-0-0, 5-0-0 in the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association. The Statesmen fell to 6-6, 2-2.

Senior Chad North (Gloversville/Gloversville, N.Y.) gave Hobart a 1-0 lead off assists from junior Hunter Brown (Brooks School/Pittsburgh, Pa.) and senior Christian Siener (City Honors/Buffalo, N.Y.) just 14 minutes into the contest. Sophomore Jamal Ballantyne (Brooklyn Friends/Brooklyn, N.Y.), who assisted on the Saints' game-winning goal, fired home a Carruth pass in the 20th minute to knot the score at 1-1.

Four minutes later, the Statesmen again capitalized on their precision passing when North netted a Brown feed to give the hosts a 2-1 advantage. However, the Saints capped a wild opening half by scoring twice in a two-minute span to claim a 3-2 lead.

Senior Rich Azulay (Thayer/Kingston, Mass.) forced overtime on Brown's third assist of the afternoon in the 71st minute.

First-year goalkeeper Cory Rosier (Liverpool/Liverpool, N.Y.) recorded 13 saves for the Statesmen. Hobart hosts Clarkson University tomorrow at 1 p.m.
