Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- In the consolation finals of the inaugural Rochester Hockey Cup, the Hobart College ice hockey team picked up its first win of the season with a 7-1 decision over SUNY-Geneseo on Saturday afternoon. Senior captain Travis Finkle (Kent/Youngstown, N.Y.) had one goal and four assists, and junior goalie Sam Weiner (Philadelphia Jr. Flyers/Philadelphia, Pa.) recorded 40 saves to lead the Statesmen.

After losing 3-0 to RIT the previous night, Hobart wasted no time in seizing control on this day. Senior Scott Frein (Canton State/Camillus, N.Y.) fired home a Finkle pass just 33 seconds into the contest to put the Statesmen on the scoreboard. Junior Zach Mundy (Berkshire/Cranston, R.I.) scored nine minutes later, and junior Tim McCarthy (Northwood/Cazenovia, N.Y.) tallied a power-play goal to make it 3-0 with just under eight minutes remaining in the opening period. Frein's second goal of the period gave the Statesmen a commanding 4-0 lead and plenty of momentum heading into the first intermission.

Lightning struck twice for Hobart when Finkle scored unassisted just 48 seconds into the second period. First-year Brad Boyer (Lawrenceville/Old Tapan, N.J.) assisted on classmate John Gluek's (Hebron/Barrington, R.I.) power-play goal with 15 seconds left in the second stanza to increase the Statesmen's lead to 6-0.

McCarthy's second goal of the game with just over two minutes remaining in the final period closed out the scoring.

Hobart's home opener against SUNY-Cortland is slated for Tues., Nov. 2, at 7:30 p.m.
