ITHACA, N.Y. -- Junior Lauren von Bereghy (University Lake School/Hartland, Wis.) and sophomore Nicole Livingston (Whitney Point/Whitney Point, N.Y.) each scored one unassisted goal, and the second-seeded William Smith College field hockey team earned a 2-0 victory at No. 3 Ithaca College in the semifinals round of the New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association (NYSWCAA) Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
Tomorrow, the Herons will face top-seeded Skidmore College in the NYSWCAA Championship at 1:30 p.m., at Ithaca. William Smith will look to capture its seventh state title. The Thoroughbreds, who edged No. 4 Hartwick 1-0 today, defeated the Herons 3-2 at Skidmore earlier this season.
von Bereghy scored the game-winner just 5 minutes, 13 seconds into today's contest. Livingston's insurance goal occurred with just under four minutes remaining in the game.
Sophomore Marjorie MacVean (Johnstown/Johnstown, N.Y.) recorded three saves for William Smith, who outshot Ithaca 24-3.
The Herons (12-6) improved their all-time record in the NYSWCAA Tournament to 37-22.
