ITHACA, N.Y. -- The William Smith College field hockey team shut out Ithaca College 2-0, raising their season record to 8-3.
Senior Alison Underwood (Johnstown High/Johnstown, N.Y.) gave William Smith a 1-0 lead two minutes into the game with her first goal of the season. Junior forward Lauren von Bereghy (University Lake High/Hartland, Wis.) provided the assist.
In the second half, von Bereghy fired home a pass from sophomore Jackie Hall (Berkshire School/ Newport, R.I.) to stake the Herons to a 2-0 advantage. With her second-half goal, von Bereghy recorded her 51st career point at William Smith and moved into 12th place on the all-time scoring list. She leads the team this season with 9 goals, 4 assists, and 22 points.
Sophomore Marjorie MacVean (Johnstown High/Johnstown, N.Y.) made four saves and earned her fifth shutout of the season. Junior Holly Rickless (Williston Northampton/Easthampton, MA) recorded 11 saves for the Bombers.
William Smith, ranked No. 14 in the nation, host UCAA-rivals Union College on Fri., Oct. 8 at 4 p.m., and Hamilton College on Sat., Oct. 9 at 2 p.m.
