GENEVA, N.Y. -- The William Smith College soccer team tallied three goals late in the second half to earn its 10th consecutive win, a 3-0 decision over Union College. The Herons improved to 11-2-0, 4-0-0 in the UCAA. The Dutchwomen (8-1-1, 2-1-1) suffered their first defeat since Sept. 15, 1998, when they lost 3-2 in overtime at SUNY-Oneonta.
After 77 minutes of scoreless action, first-year Kristin Perrigo (Liverpool/Liverpool, N.Y.) assisted on junior Brianna Tindall's (Poultney/Castleton, Vt.) goal that proved to be the game-winner. Senior Tatiana Korba (Wooster/Wooster, Ohio) netted her team-leading 15th goal of the season in the 81st minute, and senior Antoinette DeLucia (Shenendehowa/Mechanicville, N.Y.) added an unassisted score with just under three minutes remaining in the game.
Sophomore Leah Cornwell (Wheatland-Chili/Scottsville, N.Y.) made 10 saves to pick up her fifth shutout of the season, while senior Shannon Powers (Cathedral/Springfield, Mass.) recorded 18 stops for Union.
William Smith, ranked No. 6 in the nation, travels to St. Lawrence on Fri., Oct. 15, at 4 p.m.
