Herons advance in ECAC play 6-0 over Ithaca

GENEVA, N.Y. -- The William Smith College field hockey team advanced to the semifinals of the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Championship Tournament with a 6-0 victory over Ithaca College. The Herons posted their third win of the season over the Bombers to improve to 13-7, while the Bombers end the year at 8-11.

Sophomore Nicky Livingston (Whitney Point/Whitney Point, N.Y.) opened the scoring barrage less than 10 minutes into the game. Junior Lauren von Bereghy (University Lake School/Hartland, Wisc.) netted back-to-back goals to give third-seeded William Smith a 3-0 advantage. Livingston assisted on the first, sophomore Carrie Cicciarelli (Whitney Point/Whitney Point, N.Y.) picked up the helper on the second. Senior Ami Ford (Whitney Point/Whitney Point, N.Y.) followed von Bereghy's lead with consecutive goals of her own at the 8:04 and 1:50 marks in the first half. Sophomore Jackie Hall (Berkshire School/Newport, R.I.) was credited with the assist on Ford's first tally with first-year Sheila McKevitt (Northfield-Mt. Hermon/Clinton, N.Y.) earning the assist on the second.

In the second half, Hall scored off a pass from von Bereghy just over 12 minutes into the final frame to close out the scoring.

Sophomores Marjorie MacVean (Johnstown/Johnstown, N.Y.) and Ilana Gordon (Andover/Andover, Mass.) combined for two saves and the Herons' eighth shutout of the season. Junior Holly Rickless (Easthampton, Mass.) made eight saves for the sixth-seeded Bombers.

William Smith advances to the semifinal round hosted by Washington (Md.) College on Sat., Nov. 6. The Herons will play the tournament's No. 2 seed, Wesley College, at 11 a.m. The championship game is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.
