Nazareth tops Herons 2-0 in NCAA Regional

GENEVA, N.Y. -- Nazareth College advanced to the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship Tournament quarterfinals with a 2-0 win over William Smith College this afternoon. The Golden Flyers improve to 18-2-1, while the Herons end the year at 15-4-0.

Neither team found the back of the net in the first half, but Nazareth, with a hefty wind at its back, put three shots on frame, while preventing William Smith from becoming dangerous.

After the break, the Golden Flyers got in the scoring column when junior Melissa Kehoskie (Auburn/Auburn, N.Y.) fired home a feed from junior Erin Myers (Gates Chili/Rochester, N.Y.) in the 50th minute. Nazareth took a two-goal advantage 20 minutes later when first-year Stephanie Nardini (Niskayuna, N.Y.) headed in a corner kick off the foot of first-year Jamie Snyder (Allegany, N.Y.).

In goal, sophomore Leah Cornwell (Wheatland Chili/Scottsville, N.Y.) made six saves for William Smith, while sophomore Amanda Heaviside (Fayetteville-Manlius/Fayetteville, N.Y.) picked up the shutout with two stops.

Nazareth will host the winner of the New England Region on Sat., Nov. 13, in the quarterfinal round.
