Statesmen rally to defeat Ithaca in OT

GENEVA, N.Y. -- Senior Rob Pisanelli (Our Lady of Lourdes/Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) scored six of his season-high 31 points in the final 1:12 of regulation and the Hobart College basketball team overcame a seven-point second half deficit to claim an 81-77 overtime victory over Ithaca College. First-year Joe Corbett (Haverford School/Philadelphia, Pa.) tallied 13 points, a game-high 15 rebounds, and 3 blocked shots for the Statesmen, who improved to 2-2. The Bombers fell to 3-2.

Trailing 68-61 with 3:03 left in regulation, the Statesmen outscored Ithaca 10-3 to force overtime, and netted five of the initial six points in the extra session. Corbett had three points and five rebounds in the final five minutes of action.

Pisanelli converted on 10-of-20 field goal attempts and moved into eighth place on Hobart's career scoring list. He now has 1,143 career points. Senior Josh Ryan (Homer/Homer, N.Y.) had an outstanding floor game, notching career-highs in assists (7) and blocked shots (6). Ryan also scored four points and yanked down seven boards. Sophomore Michael Gambino (Our Lady of Lourdes/Hyde Park, N.Y.) had all of his 14 points in the first half, and junior Kevin Leonardo (Coxsackie- Athens/Coxsackie, N.Y.) dished out six assists.

Senior Ryan Bamford (Plymouth Regional/Plymouth, N.H.) led Ithaca with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Classmate Pat Britton (Carthage/Carthage, N.Y.) and junior Kevin Heiss (St. Francis/West Seneca, N.Y.) added 17 points apiece.

The Statesmen return to action on Fri., Dec. 10, when they host Union College at 8 p.m.
