ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The Oneonta State University Red Dragons defeated the William Smith College Herons 2-1 this afternoon in Division III women's soccer action. Junior Brianna Tindall (Poultney/Castleton, Vt.) scored the Herons' lone goal.

William Smith got out to the early lead on Tindall's goal in the 30th minute. Junior Kathleen Thelian (Phillips Exeter/Garden City, N.Y.) assisted on the score. Oneonta pulled even just before halftime, scoring the equalizer in the 44th minute.

The Red Dragons notched the decisive score during the 56th minute. Oneonta circled the wagons for the remainder of the game and held off the constant attack of the Herons.

Sophomore Leah Cornwell (Wheatland-Chili/Scottsville, N.Y.) made four saves for William Smith in her first collegiate start.

The Herons held a 14-10 advantage in shots and a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.

William Smith returns to action this weekend, playing in the Elizabethtown College Tournament Sept. 4-5.
