GENEVA, N.Y. -- The William Smith College field hockey team opened the 1999 season with a 3-0 win over SUNY-Geneseo. Sophomore
Jackie Hall (Berkshire School/Newport, R.I.) led the Herons with a pair of first half goals.
Hall opened the scoring less than six minutes into the contest, finishing a crossing pass from junior Lauren von Bereghy (University Lake School/Hartland, Wisc.). Hall struck again with 23 seconds remaining in the first frame, outsmarting the Knights' goalie, senior Lori Telesco (Dix Hills, N.Y.), with some nifty one-on-one dribbling.
In the second half, von Bereghy notched the final goal of the game, finishing off a feed from Hall.
Sophomore Marjorie MacVean (Johnstown/Johnstown, N.Y.) made six saves to earn the win, while Telesco made 20 stops for Geneseo. The Herons outshot the Knights 30-8.
William Smith returns to action on Sat., Sept. 4, when the Herons host Messiah College at 1 p.m.
