GENEVA, N.Y. -- The Hobart College soccer team improved its record to 2-1 by trouncing the Cardinals of St. John Fisher 5-1. Hobart was led by senior midfielder Chad North (Gloversville/Gloversville, N.Y.) who tallied a goal and an assist.
The Statesmen jumped out to a early lead when Rich Azulay (Thayer/Kingston, Mass.) drove home a feed from North in the seventh minute. The goal proved to be the only tally of the first half.
The Statesmen opened the second half scoring five minutes in, on a shot by junior Hunter Brown (Brooks School/Pittsburgh, Pa.). North netted his goal 12 minutes later giving the Statesmen a 3-0 lead.
The Statesmen scoring barrage was interrupted temporarily when Ben Jude scored St. John Fisher's only goal of the game in the 86th minute. Hobart then added two goals to seal the 5-1 victory.
First-year Cory Rosier (Liverpool/Liverpool, N.Y.) made six saves in net for the Statesmen. The St. John Fisher net was tended by Steve Martin who made two saves.
The Statesmen return to action on Tues., Sept. 14, when they to RIT for a 4 p.m. game.
