GENEVA, N.Y. -- The Hobart College soccer team earned its first conference win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Union College. Senior Don Smialowicz (Waldwick/Waldwick, N.J.) netted the game-winner in the 32nd minute.
In a match dominated by the Statesmen (4-1, 1-0 UCAA) offense, Hobart outshot the visiting Dutchmen 18-8. The match's lone goal was set up by senior Chad North (Gloversville/Gloversville, N.Y.). He dribbled the ball down the left wing and crossed it into the box, where Smialowicz went airborne and redirected it with his foot into the upper right corner.
Head Coach Willi Steinrotter described the goal as, "...perfect. There was nothing the [Union] keeper could've done."
First-year Cory Rosier (Liverpool/Liverpool, N.Y.) made seven saves to claim his third shutout of the season, while A.J. Shedd made six stops for Union (2-2, 1-1).
The Statesmen return to action on Mon., Sept. 20, when they travel to Utica College for a 4 p.m., match.
