von Bereghy carries Herons to victory

GENEVA, N.Y. -- Junior Lauren von Bereghy (University Lake School/Hartland, Wisc.) scored a pair of goals to lead the William Smith College field hockey team to a 2-0 win over Wilkes University in the second day of play in the William Smith Invitational. In an earlier game, Susquehanna University beat St. Lawrence University 3-0.

William Smith controlled its game from start to finish, allowing just two shots by Wilkes compared to 17 for the Herons. William Smith wasn't able to crack the scoring column until midway through the second half when von Bereghy finished off an assist by junior Sage Lansing (Lake Forest/Lake Forest, Ill.). Three minutes later, von Bereghy knocked home an insurance goal off a feed from sophomore Jackie Hall (Berkshire School/Newport, R.I.).

In the cage, sophomore Marjorie MacVean (Johnstown/Johnstown, N.Y.) made one save to record the shutout, while January Johnson made 15 saves for the Colonels.

In the first game of the day, Leah Bailor scored twice to lead Susquehanna to an easy 3-0 victory over St. Lawrence University. Lindsey Barr score the other goal for the Crusaders. Susquehanna didn't allow St. Lawrence a shot. Kendra Mason made six saves for the Saints.
