GENEVA, N.Y. -- First-year midfielder Kristen Falzarano (Morristown/Morris Plains, N.J.) scored a pair of goals to lead the William Smith soccer team to a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Ithaca College. Senior forward Tatiana Korba (Wooster/Wooster, Ohio) added one goal and one assist to lead the Herons to their sixth consecutive win.
Ithaca, ranked No. 3 in the nation and first in the latest New York/Northeast NSCAA poll, took a 1-0 lead at the 18:50 mark on a goal by Alison Paratore (Liverpool/Liverpool, N.Y.). Korba answered four minutes later with her 11th goal of the season. Tara Quinn (Liverpool/Liverpool, N.Y.) gave the Bombers a 2-1 advantage with 15 minutes remaining in the opening half.
Korba then assisted Falzarano on the first of her two goals to knot the score at 2-2 in the 33rd minute. Falzarano's game-winner occurred with 8:41 left in the first half and gave Ithaca its initial setback of 1999.
Sophomore goalkeeper Leah Cornwell (Wheatland-Chili/Scottsville, N.Y.) recorded three saves for the Herons, who entered the contest ranked No. 4 in the New York/Northeast NSCAA poll. Ithaca, N.Y., native Lindy West made nine saves for the Bombers.
"Despite the two goals, our backs deserve a lot of credit for holding Ithaca to six shots," William Smith Head Coach Aliceann Wilber said. "It was a wide-open first half...(Ithaca) comes at you in waves."
Coach Wilber praised senior Cheryl Wallace (G. Ray Bodley/Fulton, N.Y.) for her fine play at the midfield position.
William Smith hosts Hamilton College on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 4 p.m.
