ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Junior Lauren von Bereghy (University Lake School/Hartland, Wisc.) scored twice to lead William Smith College to a 4-2 victory over the University of Rochester in Division III field hockey action.
von Bereghy put the Herons (7-2, 3-1 UCAA) on the board first off a penalty corner, assisted by senior Ami Ford (Whitney Point/Whitney Point, N.Y.) and senior Alison Underwood (Johnstown/Johnstown, N.Y.). Sophomore Jackie Hall (Berkshire School/Newport, R.I.) added another goal at the 16:15 mark of the first half, finishing a pass from junior Sage Lansing (Lake Forest/Lake Forest, Ill.). Less than a minute later, sophomore Nicole Livingston (Whitney Point/Whitney Point, N.Y.) made it a 3-0 game with her sixth goal of the season.
The Yellowjackets (0-8, 0-4) snuck a goal in before halftime and added another early in the second half to close to within a goal, before von Bereghy padded the lead with 4:02 remaining.
Sophomore Marjorie MacVean (Johnstown/Johnstown, N.Y.) made four saves to pick up the win.
William Smith returns to action on Sat., Oct. 2, when they host fourth-ranked Gettysburg at noon.
